NBLSA Western Regional Convention to be held in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, CA----The Western Region Executive Board of the National Black Law Student’s Association (NBLSA) has chosen San Francisco, California as the site for its 2007 Regional Conference. The Conference will be held February 15-18, 2007, President’s Day Weekend, at The Stanford Court: A Renaissance Hotel, located near Union Square on Nob Hill. The convention, in keeping with the 2006-07 NBLSA theme is "Extending a Vision of Progress: Preparing for Excellence in the Law."

Notable conference events will include three panels with distinguished guests, as well as a welcome cocktail reception hosted at the new Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD). Renowned African American historian, Dr. Quintard Taylor will give a brief guest talk on African Americans in the West.

Convention Panels Include:

  1. Alternative Careers with a J.D. Panelists Include: Robert Harris- VP at PG&E; Barry Williams- Venture Capitalist, former Bechtel and McKinsey consultant; Prof. H.G. Prince- UC Hastings Contracts Professor;
  2. So You Want To Be In-House Counsel- Panelists Include: Corporate Counsel from PG&E, Gap, and McKesson- tentatively; and
  3. Judicial Review- A Judge's Path to the Bench Panelists Include: Hon. Martin Jenkins, and Hon. Winifred Younge Smith.

The convention also features the regional Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial and the Frederick Douglass Moot Court competitions which attract competitors throughout a region comprised of fifty law schools across six states. Regional winners proceed on to compete for the national title, held at the National Convention, March 23-27, 2007, in Atlanta, GA.

NBLSA is the largest student-run organization in America, and represents over 6,000 Black law students at over 200 law schools across the country. Recently, NBLSA established international links with Black law students in Canada, England, Nigeria and South Africa who modeled their student organizations after NBLSA, uniting under the International Relations Division.
